An introduction to Gwendoline Lamour With her all natural pin-up girl figure, ivory skin, and irresistible charm and grace Gwendoline is the personification of 1930s and 40s glamour. Trained to Masters Degree level in theatre and dance Gwendoline is long limbed and elegant and has been enchanting international audiences for seven glamourous years. Biography Gwendoline grew up in Leicestershire in the heart of the English countryside and was decanted around an array of stately homes, castles, galleries and museums by her parents, a practice which fuelled her already overactive imagination and fired a lifelong taste for beauty and culture. This passion was equalled only by her love of 1930s and 40s films and the impeccable taste and glamour they presented, with Vivien Leigh and Bette Davies being among her favourite actresses. These films inspired in her a longing to swish down marble staircases in impossible gowns with tiny waists, and wear devastating hats at rakish angles, both of which are now foibles in which she frequently indulges. By the age of fifteen Gwendoline was collecting and wearing vintage couture and corsetry, and is continually adding to her collection. Over the past seven years Gwendoline has traveled the world performing both for and with some of the world's most famous celebrities, she has been presented to royalty and been the muse for numerous painters, photographers and designers. She is presently reading for her PhD and lives in London. Burlesque Bluestocking Miss Lamour read English and Theatre at University and went on to take her Masters degree in performance, where she trained as an actress writing her thesis on Restoration Comedy. This period (the late 17th century) is her favourite period of history and produced some of finest, and most risque, writing in the English language, as well as some of Gwendoline's favourite people, including John Wilmot the profligate Earl of Rochester and Barbara Villiers, Charles II's most notorious mistress. Gwendoline continued her research into the court manners, dance and movement of the 17th century aristocracy, studying the original dancing master manuals of the period in the British Library and working in the studio with top ballet dancers. She continues to lecture in Cultural Studies and has taught period movement and acting in some of the best drama schools in London, all of which feed into her stage work and The School of G'lamour. Queen of British Burlesque All of this goes to make a Gwendoline Lamour show so special. She is refined, elegantly erotic, a talented and trained performer with wit, sparkle and a dangerously seductive streak. Her shows are inspired by a veritable roll call of beautiful women; from the glamour of historys most celebrated courtesans, the grace of fan dancing stars Sally Rand and Faith Bacon to the bouyant appeal of that pin-up model extraordinaire Betty Page. Incidentally the name Gwendoline Lamour is a mixture John Willies cartoon heroine Gwendoline, Hollywood actress Dorothy Lamour and the happy fact that G. Lamour spells ... glamour! |
